Lord of the Flies

            In the story, Lord of the Flies, the boys and everything surrounding them are a symbol to them, whether it was a tree or the conch. Now in the story the conch represents a big part of rule and order. Rule and Order is what the conch symbolizes throughout the story.
             In the beginning of the story the symbolism in the conch is at it's strongest. It represents the great rule and order of the boys. When Ralph and Piggy find the conch they decide to blow it, and brings everyone on the island together. With in the meeting of the boys who had all gotten together, the first rule that all the boys were to obey was not to speak unless you are holding the conch. This resembles how the conch is a big part of rule in the beginning of the story. While the boys are obeying this rule and as other rules are made, it's mostly made when they have the conch in their hand. At this time the boys are quit civilized.
             In the Middle of the story, the conch's symbolism of rule and order start to fade, or diminish. At this point of the story all the boys are becoming to act more and more like little kids, playing around and not obeying the rules. One rule they start to disobey is speaking loudly with out holding the conch and blurting things out. Little by little everyone yells out things and takes it as a joke. For example, when Ralph called the meeting about he beastie they had saw, all of the little ones where so frightened when they heard about ghosts and monsters, they ran off and made so much noise Ralph gave up and the conch's rule and order was diminishing.
             At the end of the story, the conch's rule and order was gone. At this stage it was a war between good and evil. As Ralph and piggy wanted everyone to become a group again, the other boys wanted another. As Piggy tried to explain to Jack it would be better off to work together, roger pushed a big rock on top of Piggy and caused Piggy's death. As Piggy was crushed so was...
