The Turn of A Screw

             The Turn of the Screw is a tale of a women and her struggle to get a grasp on reality. The Governess as she is known in the story is put in charge of taking care of two kids. These kids are named Miles and Flora. While she is caring for these kids she begins to see two people who she believes are the ghosts of Peter Quint and Ms. Jessel. The Governess is positive that these ghosts are after the kids and that she is the only one who can stop these evil presences from destroying the kids. Throughout the story many of the characters exhibit malevolent behavior, evil influence, and insinuated insanity. These qualities seem to be docile at the beginning of the story but play a major role in the outcome near the end.
             Malevolent behavior is found throughout the story. It is exhibited by nearly every character towards one or even more people. One of the strongest influences seems to be the ghosts' malevolent behavior towards the kids. They seem to want to see that the kids are harmed. They invite them into dangerous situations, like the time that Jessel is on the other side of the lake as Flora. The Governess pointed out Jessel seemed to be inviting Flora to come into the water where she would most likely perish. Another is how the Governess sees Quint usually in high places where he is most likely inviting Miles up where he is likely to fall and get hurt. Another example is the ill will that the kids show towards the governess. Miles seems to be constantly trying to degrade her. He implies that he could have her if he wanted, and that she could not punish him if she wanted because she is not in control. Another is Flora near the end of the story, she shows this malevolent behavior towards the Governess when she says that she never wants to see her again, and she says evil things about the Governess while she is sleeping.
