             In modern day, we can see very many forms of temptation. Various objects, substances, and actions tempt people everyday. Moreover, we are aware of the power of temptation in our own lives. Many people are tempted by alcohol. They are very tempted by the feeling of carefree bliss. Most people who are tempted by alcohol are able to control their drinking and make it an occasional indolence. Others become so addicted that alcohol controls their lives.
             Drugs offer similar promise of being lifted to a pleasant piece of state where one can forget all his troubles, temporally, at least. Drugs can be even more addictive than alcohol and even more devastating. Many young people are tempted by their friends to give drugs a try. Later, they may deeply regret having given in to that particular temptation. Medieval people may not have had the drugs that we have today, but food and drink were certainly a strong temptation for them.
             Chaucer, Langland and the Gawain poet all wrote about the topic of temptation. Why did they write about this theme? Many believe that it was for primarily for religious reasons. Religion consumed society at that time and that was the main theme of most medieval stories. However, I believe that authors had motivations other than religious ones when they wrote about temptation. Some writers may choose to write about temptations because it is so universal.
