Things Only Get Better

             "Evan." My eyes examined the words, "Evan Evan..." I repeated.
             It was written all over her binder. Not one centimeter without a heart or something else. I knew right then that she was in love. Riley and I have been best friends ever since I can remember. We lived right across the street from each other and we were together basically all the time. Things never changed. We were always partners in class and we would always play together at recess. It wasn't until grade nine that things started to change. People started to change, and so did she. Everything seemed to be different. We would talk about it but she thought nothing different was happening. I could tell we were losing touch. I don't know exactly how it happened. I don't know exactly what I did wrong. Maybe we were just being around each other too much. I thought I totally knew her. Now it seems like I don't have a clue what's going on in her life. I do not know what is going through her head. It seems like she is hiding something, something that she doesn't want anyone to know about. Or maybe she just wants me out of her life. I just don't know why.
             It was April. 3 and warm spring day, I stared up at the sky as I continued my usual five-minute walk to school. Except this time it was different. Riley wasn't there to walk and talk with me. She had gotten a ride in with her new boyfriend Evan. Evan was a senior he went to our school and was graduating this year. He was known to be the player. He was a guy that had dated every girl in our school. Yet it seemed like he didn't care about a single one of them. Whenever the relationship got bumpy he would run without a thought in his busy head.
