In today's society, people are referred to as either being a liberal or a conservatist. A true liberal has a set of beliefs that focus's on civil rights and tolerance for political and social change. As for a conservatist, they believe in supporting traditional values and being cautious to change (Dye 46-48).
In the ideological spectrum, the diagram showed that I was in between the liberal and libertarian views. I was rather surprised on the outcome of the test in that I don't consider myself anywhere on the liberal side of issues. I just like a little bit of everything. I suppose that in doing this I would be considered more of a libertarian than anything. Basically, in society I think that a person should not necessarily focus his/hers idea's on what others in a group such as liberals and conservatist believe in. Ideas should be original and that it should help the overall growth in society and government. I believe the test does give a valid measure of political ideology in that it shows the ordinary citizens how their views compare to those of true liberal and conservatist. The questions need to seem to be more various. The questions on this test seemed to repeat themselves and it just seemed like it kept asking the same questions, but in different detail.
Everyday liberals and convervatist constantly disagree on issues of equality and order. Order is when a person is willing to grant the government maintain the way society is run. On the other hand, Equality is the amount of power a person is willing to give the government to make sure issues are run fair in society. Liberals see the government as a way to help the less fortunate people achieve greater equality (idea log). While the conservatist see it as the government trying to defend the community from threats to accept practices.
