The two protagonists are displayed as the audience are allowed to expect through their clothes. Mills is displayed as the rookie cop through his clothes and him arriving later than Summerset. Both main protagonists being displayed to be opposites throughout the film allows the audience to understand the characters whilst allowing the characters to interact in their own ways not liking each other before later growing to like each other.
