The following are terms used in Educational Advocacy.
Educational Advocacy - to support and defend the rights of students and their families
Action Plan - An Action Plan is formulated by an Educational Advocate. It contains the actions and steps needed to support students' needs. The needs are determined by the Educational Advocate based on the student's learning history, Psycho-Educational Testing, and parent, student and teacher interviews.
BCB Graphic Organizers - BCB Graphic Organizers are tools for students to use to increase reading comprehension from textbooks and to increase information retention through class notes.
Coaching - to train by instruction based on an individual student's learning style.
Educational Advocate - An Educational Advocate is someone who is knowledgeable about Psycho-Educational Testing and can interpret the test results to define an individual student's learning style and put this information to work to support the student and the family.
Educational Coach - An Educational Coach is someone who has proper teaching credentials and knowledge of how to implement an Action Plan to work with a student to increase skills and guide the student to success and independence.
I.E.P. - Individual Education Plan - The plan is administered under the special education services department of your school or district. The plan contains the results of all the Psycho-Educational Testing, input from the nurse, social worker, speech and language therapist, occupational therapist, the special education teacher or department, the classroom teacher and the parents. Services to be given to the student are documented. Goals and objectives for a specific time period are stated in the document.
