The way people are brought up has a lot to say about the way they conduct themselves in every aspect of life, including communication. I believe that behavior is learned and, argue as you may, but everything about a person's personality is influenced by outside sources.
             Males are taught from an early age how to act and react to certain stimuli. Women are often taught to be more emotional, as boys are scolded for crying. Has the phrase "Don't cry like a little girl" ever reached your ears? I am wondering when and who ever decided that women are allowed to cry when men are supposed to be tough and hide this vital emotion which could be used as a valuable communication tool.
