             In, "I Want a Sunday Kind of Love" the author's view is that everyone needs a family. Herbert Gold thinks that everyone needs a family because those who do not have a family often feel empty without one. Throughout the story there were numerous symbols, images and motifs that proved the Dan Shaper felt lonely without having a family. For instance, Dan Shaper often missed his children and felt empty without them (page 253). The daughters often missed the father as well. On page 253 Dan remembers one of his daughters saying, "Why do you have to stay away so long?" This shows that the daughters are also longing to have a relationship with their father. In the second paragraph of page 253, Dan is thinking about his children and how he wants a new family of his own, but he knows that he cannot replace his daughters, Cynthia and Paula. Also, the author feels as of a perfect family is a family that is all together and living in the same house. He feels as if a family cannot be a family if they are not all together. This is shown because the mother of the daughters is trying to exclude Dan from the family and make it so that Cynthia, Paula, Mike (the guy she is seeing), and herself are all one family. Examples of this can be seen throughout the story. On page 255, from paragraph six until the end of the page. For instance, when Dan picks up the children they are waiting on the front porch, this is showing that Dan and his ex-wife don't want anything to do with each other and don't matter to each other. When he picks up the children, all three of them are shy, this is showing that the distance between them is affecting the way they are with each other. Also, a couple times the children mention things that their mother had said about Dan. This is showing that the mother is trying to make the children not want to be around their dad.
