the name of Hal-9000, seemed to be a fabrication of mankind. However he may well have been a synopsis of humanity, rather than just its creation. After all, he appeared to have grown and learned almost in exactly the same manner as humans grow, through tutelage and experience. Subsequently he was created, programmed and instructed by human beings, spending his entire existence nestled in the core of our race. He was, as far as separate-party-perspective was concerned, capable of independent thoughts and emotions, albeit obviously fabricated ones. He learned and grew, as humans do. He developed a psyche, a construct to which he could adhere, as humans do.
             Additionally, as humans sometimes do, Hal became neurotic and insecure. He became overly concerned with his one purpose to fulfill, and in doing what he perceived as the greater good, he became psychotic and murdered his human counterparts. He was, of course, slain in turn, but this is again a predictable outcome had Hal been a biological human being.
             Do any of these qualities make Hal human? Though his physical composition was vastly different from ours, the ranges and patterns of emotion and thought that Hal displayed were nearly identical to those of flesh-and-blood human beings. Is that enough? I imagine that they would be, (He was capable of murder, as well. Is that another requisite of Humanity?) though this is largely dependant on the significance of the physical aspect of reality. Perhaps the corporeal
