Is Antigone an honorable character?

             One must earn the right to be considered an honorable person. It often involves doing deeds out of the ordinary to help others. Sometimes it might even consist of going against the will of others to what the honorable person thinks is right. In Sophocles's Greek drama, Antigone, there were characters who possessed many qualities that classify them as admirable people. To be more specific, Antigone definitely defines the characteristics of an honorable person because of her actions that proved her singularity.
             Originally, the setting of the drama was in a fictional kingdom known as Thebes. This kingdom was basically run by a set of rules and laws. Whether they were necessary or not, the rules must be obeyed by the king's edict. Polyneices, Antigone's brother, went against the city of Thebes by provoking a war with enemies of the Thebians. Creon. "............I need hardly remind you that I would never have any dealings with an enemy of the people, Creon stated in regards to Polyneices actions (S1, Line 26-27). With dignity, Creon declared, "Polyneices, I say, is to have no burial" (S1, Line 40). When Antigone found about Creon's decision she became very troubled because the king wouldn't let her brother be properly buried for his soul to rest in peace. "It is the dead, not the living, who make demands," Antigone explains how she disagrees with the laws of the land. After burying him once and succeeding, Creon found that someone had buried Polyneices unjustifiably. Creon sent guards to uncover the corpse that had the layer of dust Antigone had applied on it. Antigone's determination to bury her brother the second time resulted in her being arrested. In the face of diversity, Antigone stood up for what she believed in.
