The movie House of Games, which is directed by David Mamet, and stars Lindsay Crouse, and Joe Mantegna, is a drama about a psychiatrist that tries to help a suicidal patient with a big gambling debt. The psychiatrist later learns that getting involved with the patient's private life is not such a good idea because she ends up getting conned out of 80,000 dollars. The psychiatrist, trying to help her patient in his private life, finds a con man, Mike, who has several dangerous characteristics. Mike is clever and he is cruel.
             First, Mike is clever. In one scene, when Dr Ford is seeing Mike, he gets her to help him with a favor. The favor is to help him when a big bet by telling if his opponent is bluffing. He ends up losing the bet after Dr. Ford back Mike's hand with her own money. In another scene, Mike is clever by the way he makes their tryst seem dangerous. Knowing that Dr. Ford is addicted to danger, Mike steals a key to a room at the hotel. When they go to open the door to the room, Dr Ford asks, "What if the man comes back?" And Mike replies, "He had on a tuxedo, we should believe he is out for the night, and if he does, we deal with that thing then. In or out?" Dr. Ford takes the key and enters the room. Since Mike is clever in making each time their together seem dangerous, she falls for him even more.
             Mike also has a cruel side Dr. Ford finds. In the bar across from the "House of Games", she finds Mike and his fellow con men talking about her. One of his fellow con men says, "Mike, how did you know she would go for the con?" Mike replies, "Go for it, hell, the broad is an addict to danger." Mike and his associates also go on to talk that she is a born thief, because she stole his lucky pocket knife. Once she figures out that she can't trust him one bit, she confronts him in the airport.
