human nature and behavior in the rawest way. He reveals every thing, every person or type of person that annoys Holden or that he hates. Holden is a very pessimistic person. He helped me to realize that in a way, we all very pessimistic at times. We all get annoyed by little things that don't really matter much. If Holden wouldn't let every little thing bother him so much he might not have been such a very depressed person. But I have to admit that I can relate to him on quite a few levels.
             For instance, in one part of the book he is talking to Mr. Spencer, his old history teacher from Pencey. Spencer is trying to give a lecture to Holden on being responsible and applying yourself, and telling Holden that he never tried in any of his classes especially history, the class he taught. He tells Holden that he flunked him in history because he knew "absolutely nothing". Holden vents to the reader:
             " 'Absolutely nothing,' he said over again. That's something that drives me crazy. When people say something twice that way, after you admit it the first time.&
