The advertisement that I chose for this essay is for Absolut Vodka here we have a
very popular line of advertisements, which has been running for many years now. The
central theme to these ads is that the bottle seems to be always the main focal point. The
advert itself is very true to this tradition; it has great use of colours which is what at first
drew me to choosing this piece. It has a blue background similar to the shade of blue in
the sky on a sunny day. The bottle sits in the foreground slightly to the left off center. On
the right hand side of the bottle is half an orange sitting sliced face down. The bottle itself
has lots of text on it, first there is the name of the product on it; ABSOLUT MANDARIN
It also has a paragraph long piece on the distilling process and the history of Absolut on
it. The bottle is frosted except for the base of it, which is orange and in the shape of a
setting sun. This also mimics the sliced orange on the right side of the bottle.
The text of the advert is very simple and to the point "ABSOLUT REUNION" but
it could have many possible implications to what it is trying to say. It may suggest the
union of the vodka and the mandarin which would be the most obvious answer, it could
also because of the choice of word reunion be trying to reach its audience on a more
personal level, this could invoke certain feelings within the consumer, the word reunion
may mean something different to everyone else, re-united with an old friend, a family
The presentation of the advert makes it look like a sunset, this is a very smart
advertising trick; first the colours used immediately draw you to the page, everyone likes
to stare at the sunset so why should it be any different when it is on the page. Secondly
