Compare contrast the pearl

             Even in a world, seemingly of peace and simplicity, conflict may arise. In the story the pearl, written by John Steinback, a common fisherman, named Kino, lived his life with little to no trouble at all. Within the first chapter conflict occurs. A poisonous scorpion stings Kino's infant son, even after Kino and his wife Juana feebly attempted to prevent such a calamity. After a run to the doctors they discover that the doctors avarice is more important then the life of a human being. So after the physician denied them because they were indigent, they decide to go pearl diving in an attempt to come up with enough money in order to pay the greedy doctor. As the story goes on Kino realizes he must throw his past away as he is pursued by greed and evil in physical and spiritual form. Throughout the book Kino changes as the power of greed begins to take over. His wants and desires, personality traits, and roles in the community can be compared and contrasted as the book goes on.
             The personality of Kino is not one of complexity, but one that takes some thinking to understand. Kino is a calm man who is content with life; he has peace of mind, and sort of kept to himself. He was also unselfishly caring but at time he could be aggressively fierce. A personality trait that stayed the same before as well as after the pearl was discovered was his aggressiveness. Before the pearl you could plainly image his anger towards the scorpion, which represents evil, as he pounds the scorpion with his fist, into the ground, after it stung Coyotito. After the pearl was found, this same aggressiveness was shown towards the end of the book when Kino maliciously and willingly slaughters the two trackers and the dark man with the rifle. A trait the changed after the pearl was found was his calm thinking and level headedness. Such as before the pearl was found he could go out in the morning wrapped up in a blanket and watc
