             Hamlet is a scholar and a religious man- he follows the basic Christian principals of living, shown by his lamentation that the 'everlasting had fixed his cannon against self-slaughter', meaning that Hamlets prevents himself from committing suicide at a time when he feels like doing so. Another central religious principle is against murder: if Hamlet were to kill Claudius, he would be violating this which would make him feel guilty at having broken religious coda, thus representing estrangement at his level of religious consciousness.
             Hamlet and Horatio studied philosophy together at Wittenberg; he calls Horatio a "fellow-student". Philosophy teaches principles in a moral sense. Hamlet's internal belief is against committing crimes, to kill a king would mean go against all his philosophies, and it might even harm the hierarchical order of a state's government. Hamlet has a generally principled nature; he refuses to gather a mob to overthrow Claudius even though he knows that he had the ability to do so. We know that Hamlet can do this, as Claudius explicitly says, "He's loved of the distracted multitude/ Who like not in their judgment, but their eyes". Hamlet, being a Prince, would understand how politics works the same as Claudius and Hamlet Sr. There is a general similarity in how these blood relatives think and feel which emerges from both of their acknowledgments of their psychological reliance on their Queen's, Gertrude's, support of them.
