Barriers Removed

             Picture a world in which people are no longer living with devastating diseases and disorders like Partisans Disease, Diabetes, and Alzheimer's disease. That can be the case if barriers that now engulf stem cell research can be removed. Stem Cell research is by no means, a recent medical breakthrough; it has been around for decades, and also inadequately under-funded for decades. Recent developments are beginning a medical revolution in the medical world. Many diseases and disorders that have devastated millions of people through the years can be eliminated if stem cell research is allowed to be practiced to its fullest extent by eliminating the barriers that currently exist surrounding it. Research should be granted to the fullest possible extent in the field of stem cell research because of the potential groundbreaking effects it may bring to the world of medicine.
             Stem cell research is in no way a recent medical practice. The first research done on stem cell research was over forty ago when scientists began working with bone marrow, where some stem cells exist. After years of study on the stem cells found in human bone marrow, scientists working with mouse embryos discovered ways in which to obtain stem cells. The latest medical breakthrough in the field of stem cell research occurred only six years ago, when James Thomson of the University of Wisconsin-Madison discovered a way to isolate stem cells and grow them in a laboratory. On August 9, 2001, President George W. Bush made a decision to allow federal tax dollars to be used for stem cell research. However, the president's decision came with very strict limitations on how the research may be carried out, preventing the fullest study to be attained. Stem cell research is not a cutting edge medical breakthrough, it has been around for decades. Continued research may bring about revolutionizing medical advancements forever.
