One of the most important topics addressed by Hawthorne in his writings is faith. Hawthorn uses faith in a common literature triplet that he used throughout the story of Young Goodman Brown. In his story he used the following three types of faith: faith in God, faith in his wife, and faith in humanity.. Faith controls our every drive to fulfill a dream our drive to become a better person and in some cases our drive for an eternal life.
             Talking about faith, or keeping the faith, is like trying to grab a fish in the water with one hand. Faith is a word of many synonyms. The Webster dictionary states that faith is trust; confidence - the complete acceptance of a truth, which cannot be demonstrated or proved by the process of logical thought. The Bible dictionary says that faith is trust in and on reliance on God.
             Ephesians 6:16 - Take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one. Goodman Brown did not have faith. He did not have religious faith or faith in his fellow human beings in Salem. And because he didn't have faith he became defenseless to the "flaming arrows of the evil one". Goodman Brown like all of us has battles against the devil over our guilt, our sins, and our fears. And it is up to us to decide whether we will stand up to our sins.
             God is the most important place to place your faith for most people. Placing faith in God can help someone become a better person. A person that believes in God and follows the Bible is usually nicer than someone that does not.
             People need to place faith in humanity. Without faith in humanity there would be no love, no economies, and most of all no trust. When a person walks into a store and plans on buying a product he does so with the faith and trust that the product will do what it is made to do and without that faith there would be no buying of any products.
