             The woman lying in the hospital bed next to Nicholas was almost unfamiliar as if she only existed in another lifetime. His girlfriend Allie had been in a fatal car accident three years ago that had left her in a coma since her collision. Nicholas felt greatly responsible for what happened to Allie that Monday morning of her incident. Being the late fellow that he usually, he was expected to meet Allie at the bus stop where she always patiently waited for Nicholas before heading off to school. He knew he was already running late so he rushed to the bus stop as quickly as his two legs could take him. But he unexpectedly ran into Jaida who caught him by surprise. She was Nicholas' long childhood friend and also a good companion and classmate of Allie's. But a few weeks into Nicholas and Allie's relationship, Jaida came into realization that what she felt for Nicholas was not purely friendship but also love, a deep love that she never realized before. But Nicholas was currently happy with Allie so she did the best she could to repress her feelings for Nicholas. "Where are you off to in such a rush Nicholas?" said Jaida happy to see him. "I was suppose to meet with Allie at the bus stop fifteen minutes ago. I hope she is not upset with me," Nicholas responded almost breathlessly. "Oh," said Jaida. "I am sure she will not mind waiting an extra five minutes." They began chatting and catching up since they have been both occupied with their own busy lives.
             Allie remained waiting patiently for Nicholas at the bus stop. He was almost thirty minutes late, later than usual. She suddenly noticed that a man in a red sedan driving recklessly, possibly drunk, and before she was aware of what was about to happen, the car slammed into her leaving her unconscious yet still animate.
