             No matter how high things are stacked against you, nothing is inevitable. Whether in sports, war, school, etc., there is always a chance to succeed. It was not inevitable for the North to win the war due to one main key factor that could have gone either way. The main factor that could have changed the war was foreign intervention. If Britain and France decided to get involved and re-capture land in the US, then the Union would have had to fight two or three wars at the same time, taking away all the man power that was propelling them at the Southern front. If the North found it tough to fight one war against a few under equipped farm boys then they would definitely have some trouble having to ward off the highly trained and battle seasoned Redcoats. For due to the Union's bad military leadership, unprepared soldiers and trouble with communications, the Redcoats alone would have been a tough match. Also if Britain, the Queen of the sea, decided to get involved, then the Northerners Sea barrier would have proven ineffective, falling to the mighty fleet. Thus the Southern trade would reopen providing them with more supplies and weaponry imported from other countries, increasing their strength dramatically. All in all the North most likely would not have been able to both hold off an invasion from the British or the French, and attack the South at the same time. Eventually, their power would have depleted, leaving the Union in a state of segregation and the South in a state of victory.
             Although their advantages were few, the South did quite possibly the worst job at exploiting its benefits. Their bad leadership proved to be the bullet in the foot.
