After reading Chopin's The Story Of An Hour I came to the conclusion that it was indeed the story of a century; it showed how housewives were treated in the past (late 1800's) as if they were citizens of second class, struggling the same way as fruit pickers in California and sharecroppers down in the South did.
             But in my neophyte point of view , it has dramatically changed in some ways through the turn of decades, now women are not as oppressed as they were back in the day, they perform a very important role in our communities, their voice is heard and are not only represented by the soccer moms in our towns.
             For instance just to name a few we have Margaret Thatcher who was the United Kingdom's first woman prime minister, she ruled for 11 years until she resigned from office, thanks to her harsh economic policies she reversed decades of decline and reinstated the UK as a major economic power. Rosa parks who fights for black equality and women issues in the U.S. and Rigoberta Menchu who was awarded a Nobel peace price in 1992 for her lifetime support and work in the promotion of the defense of human rights, peace and Indigenous Peoples' rights in Guatemala and Central America.
             The reading shows us how through the years society can change and can come to a basic understanding of how minorities, being women or different social groups will fight for their rights and try to be freed and liberated from their oppressor's arm.
