Marriage: A union between a man and a woman. It is a definition that has been the center of much controversy over the last several years. Something that once was simple and straight forward has recently developed a new facet. At one time the idea of homosexual marriages was almost unspeakable, yet today has become more main stream.
             There is a revolution brewing in the USA today, with the push for Gay marriages being stronger than ever, yet will this push be enough to change the ideals of a seemingly homophobic US administration. George Bush has recently called for an amendment to "define and protect marriage as a union of man and woman as husband and wife." Comments like this seem to put fuel on the fire of the revolutionaries. This seems to be the case for celebrity Rosie O'Donnell, who a month ago married her long time partner. She said the President's call is what inspired her to go to San Francisco to have the ceremony done. She was quoted as saying "I think the actions of the President are, in my opinion, the most vile and hateful words every spoken by a sitting President! I am shocked and horrified!" It is high profile examples such as this keeping the issue in the media and keeping support high. Many gays feel that it is not the issue of just being married; one of the main issues is that gay couples are not entitled to any government assistance that heterosexual couples are entitled to, and most wonder why. There have been movements lately that prove the government is moving towards allowing states to decide whether or not to allow same sex marriages. At this time Massachusetts is the only state which courts have struck down the ban on same sex marriages. There are several other states with laws which are in the motions of change, states like New York and California seem as if they are not far away from allowing marriages.
