The Waiting Room Blues

When I reluctantly pulled into the parking lot of my doctor's office, I would be spending much more of my precious time in the waiting room than I wanted to. I especially didn't want to be there on such a beautiful warm summer day. Even though I was just there for a routine checkup and had an appointment,I would probably have to wait an hour or more to see my doctor. I hoped it would go by fast.I entered the waiting room, where there were many red, green and blue chairs placed along the walls, plus more rows of chairs in the middle of the room. Each group of chairs had a white table beside it with periodicals and books on it. The dull gray wallpapered walls had several picturesque landscape paintings hung from them. The faded yellow carpet on the floor had seen many better days.I took a seat as far away from the sikest looking people and began to wait. Soon I was startled by a loud ruckus. It was two young ill-mannered barefoot boys. Theay were fighting over a coloring book like a couple of wild dogs battling for a bone. Shortly after, a disgruntled infant let out a nerve-racking cry that would have awakened the dead. Gladly, the mother of the child knew exactly how to shut it up. I anxiously sat there waiting for my name to be called as if it were a life line to a joyous reward. Then, it happened. The two words Ihad been longing to hear came blaring out over the intercom. It was my turn to see the doctor. My anguish had finally come to an end. I got to leave the waiting room.
