for $2.50 each. The concept of the model was very similar to the idea of Sidgier's, however, it was the first washing machine intended for use within the home and, with this, the art of washing your linens became easier as the years passed by.
             These newer methods of clothes washing were still not speedy enough for the common man. The early 1900's brought upon the introduction of small electric motors, as well as metal tubs which replaced wooden ones. The first of its kind was introduced in 1906. Maytag built its very first machine in 1907which had a handle and a flywheel underneath, and by 1908, the Hurley Machine Company of Chicago, Illinois built a model which was named "The Thor". Its inventor was Alva J. Fisher, who had built a drum machine with a galvanized tub as well as an electric motor. The Thor was issued a patent on August 9th, 1910 (see photo on bottom of previous page). In 1911, the typical washing machine had an oscillating motion and in 1920 there were no more wooden models being produced.
