Retro 80

             I must have stepped into Dr. Brown's DeLoren, punched the accelerator, reached eighty-eight miles an hour, and instead of going back to the future, I ended up in the 1980s. There is no other explanation. I'm back in college, striving for my degree. I'm looking at my fellow students and they are wearing what we did 20 years ago. One of my favorite radio stations, 101.5 FM, The Point, is the best of the eighties. What's going on? Am I caught in the space time continuum? The music and fashions may have returned, however my physique and hair have not yet made their reappearance. "I haven't flipped my coins into the fountain of youth" as recording star, Martina McBride sings. I can't believe we are going to already relive the eighties...its all so, well, nostalgic. I have determined that's really what it's all about. We're all looking back, like the little old lady driving in front of me. We are driving forward by the rear view mirror. What I mean is...that with all the uncertainty out there...terrorists, anthrax, Iraq, unemployment, "W.", and a thousand other unknowns are kind of giving me an identity crisis...giving "US" an identity crisis. Things were easier back then...at least that's how I remembered them to be. I was cool in the eighties.
             Could it be that we just like the music, the movies, and the clothes? Do we get to decide what to buy, wear, listen to, or watch? Or just what we are offered, like Bush or Kerry, Coke or Pepsi, Caffeinated or Decafe? I don't go through the mall, walk into Abercrombie & Fitch, Old Navy, or Dillard's and design my own clothes, thank God! I choose from a selection of apparel, depending upon the season, the current trend and my particular style. I make a selection from what is being offered. Quite frankly, everything is available for the choosing. Except for that pair of navy blue corduroy jeans my wife wanted and...
