Looking at the severity of Stalin's reign on the Soviet Union in the 1930s, one can only imagine the torment he must have gone through as a young boy. Viewing this case as one of the most extreme of its kind where the abused became the abuser, many would think that such an extreme case is unlikely to ever happen again. However, this case shows how even the most extreme case of "the cycle of child abuse" can be reached if the right circumstances are present.
             Since 95% of child abusers were abused as children, it seems only reasonable to assume that child abuse is a continuous cycle of the abused becoming the abuser (Safe Child Program). Torment on a young child perhaps warps their sense of reality, making it possible for the child to become an abuser when they reach adulthood. Not only does this create a hostile environment for future children in a family setting, but child abuse can be linked to other problems at the social level, such as suicide or severe violence towards others. Now one can not say that every suicide or act of violence is linked towards a form of child abuse, but one can definitely say that child abuse can bring about abnormal and sometimes very violent tendencies. An example of this very theory can be related to the school shootings at Columbine High School in Colorado. Both shooters, Eric Harris, and Dylan Klebold lashed out at society's problems by killing their fellow students at random (Plunkett). Citing their own misfortunes, it was said that both shooters were the victims of bullying and torment at the hands of their fellow students and had finally had enough, feeling that revenge was their only way to feel better (Plunkett and Pankratz).
