He withdrew his corp, and informed General Heth. The following day, General Heth was given permission to attack Gettysburg, and taking the city. Shots were exchanged between Heth's and Union General Buford. Late that afternoon, General Lee arrived at the sight of the shootings still without any news from Stuart.
