The oral stage, the anal stage, the phallic stage, the latency period, and the genital stage- this is how Sigmund Freud believes your personality develops. I think Freud was crazy, disgusting, and psychotic. I don't think his theory makes sense at all. I believe child development takes place as the child grows, learns, discovers, and gets taught.
First, Freud says that from birth to eight months a child is fulfilling his sexual urges by stimulating his mouth, and that is why they are always sucking, biting, and swallowing. But any doctor will tell you, that a babie's natural instinct is to suck. They need to suck to eat. How else are they supposed to consume food? Is Freud saying that they suck their bottles not because they're hungry but because they are fulfilling their sexual urges? I think not.
Next, during the anal stage, Freud says that "Bowel movements become a source of pleasure to the child. He may defecate often to achieve this pleasure."
I believe that a child doesn't have bowl movements for a source of pleasure. I think they have bowl movements because they have to go to the bathroom but are still to young too understand. They eventually understand because their parents teach them.
The phallic stage is next. "the increased awareness in the male of his sexual organs leads him to subconsciously desire his mother. In addition, the male child grows envious and resentful of his father and wishes to replace him as the object of his mother's love. " -Freud
I think this is one of the most ridiculous things I have ever heard. I don't know any little girls who hate their moms or any little boys that hate their dad. He also says "This complex involves penis envy on the part of the female child. She believes that she once had a penis but that it was removed. In order to compensate for its loss, the girl wants to have a child by her father. "
