             The case was first taken up on December 1st, 2000 after the Florida Supreme Court ordered the recount process in Florida to proceed. On December 4, 2000, the court invalidated the decision of the Florida Supreme Court saying that the court's decision to circumvent state election laws, which stated that results had to be certified by a certain date, was "considerable uncertainty".
