I thought that the most important part of the story happened when Gurov went out looking for Anna at the theater. To me the peak of the story happened when Gurov wen to the theater and saw her walking in with her husband. Only because having read the beginning of the story, and knowing how they were like when they were together, made the reader wonder what kind of reaction was going to take place. As Anna's husband got up to have a smoke, Gurov finally builds up enough courage to approach her. One may also wonder that if her husband had not gotten up to have a smoke would Gurov have approached her than? Or would he simply let her get up and leave as if he didn't know her, knowing that it could have been the last time he ever saw her? All questions were just left for the reader's imagination. As Gurov proceeded to approach the only woman in his life who had made him so miserable by being so far away. The reader was left with the expense of what her reaction was going to be. He reached her with a "forced smile on his face and voice trembling" he said "good-evening". "She glanced at him and turned pale, and then glanced again with horror, unable to believe her eyes, and tightly gripped the fan and lorgnette in her hands, evidently struggling with herself not to faint. Both were silent she was sitting, and he was standing, frightened by her confusion and not venturing to sit down beside to her". I think that she was more or less frighten of the fact that he went there to find her, knowing she had a husband. She could of also been afraid to get caught having an affair on her husband. "Gurov than felt as if everyone was staring at him". She than got up and tried to leave the crowd. It's pretty safe to say that they did have strong feelings for each other. Him because he set himself out to go find her and her because she could have easily sat in her stool and act
