That was Then This is now

             In the story That Was Then, This Is Now, the author,S.E.Hinton, portrays the adventrous lives of teenagers and the problems they experience these days. Characters in this story struggle through each day trying to dismiss their problems.trying to move on. One of these characters, Mark, is an ignorant person with a strange way of thinking.
             Mark does not know right from wrong. He is an ignorant young man. He feels that dealing drugs is not a bad thing to do. He sees a probation officer because he had stolen a car. The ironic part is that he drives the principal's car from school (without permission) to see his officer. He says he just "borrowed" it, and this goes to show how ignorant he actually is. This is probably due to coming from a broken family. As a young boy he would see his parents always drunk and continuosly fighting. He had no support from them, and was taught no morals.
             Mark also has an awkward way of thinking. He usually tries to spark up conflicts which lead into fights. A common reaction when a very close friend passes away is sorrow, but Mark is no affected by Charlie's death which is very unusual. Bryon, on the other hand, is suffering a great deal over this tradgedy. Mark seeks revenge whenever he is mistreated. He feels he has the authority to judge and punish others.
             Mark is also a very smooth talker which aids him to escape difficult situations easily. he frequently lies which improves his escapes. Mark also attempts to convince Bryon the dealing drugs is not a very bad thing. His personality and behaviour have and will continue to get him in trouble in his lifetime.
