Mathematically speaking what do you think compassion, stubborness, and pride all add up to? They all add up to one particular person. Her name is Antigone.
             First of all, Antigone was compassionate becuase she wanted to bury her brother Polyneices after he died in the war between him and his brother Etocales. Creon, the king of Thebes, told the townspeople that if any man dares to bury Polyneices, they shall be stoned.(1) For Polyneices was a traitor to the city for killing Etocles who defended the town in the war. Ismene, Antigones sister, was not one for getting into trouble with the law, so she was not going to help her at all. Antigone said to Ismene "that must be your excuse but as for me I will bury the brother I love"(774). So, she went alone without Ismene. All she could think of was that "I will bury him and if and must die, I say that this crime is holy. I shall live down"(774). After she went to go bury her brother, someone found out it was she and caught her and brought her to Creon. Ismene didn't want Antigone to get into trouble but all Antigone wanted was for her to stay out of it. She said to her "you would not help me and I will not help you"(785).
             For being so compassionate she is so profound that she is stubborn because Creon had ordered that no man bury Polyneices, she went and did it for herself. She had said to Ismene before "Creon is not strong enough to stand in my way" (785). She didn't care what Creon said about her becuase she thought what she did was right. Maybe if she was to listen to Ismene she wouldn't have gotten into so much trouble with the law.
             She also had some pride to actually stand up to Creon and tell him to do what he shall with her. Creon wanted to know if she was lying but all that she could say to Creon was "I do. I deny nothing"(783). She didn't care that she did the crime. She also stated to Ismene for she was trying to be
