School Violence

ich is comprised of several goals that were to be completed by the year 2000. The urgency of school safety was stated in goal number 7, which was originally the 6th goal, stating that by the year 2000 every school would be free of drugs and violence, providing students with a save learning environment.
             Violence can be divided into two categories, physical and mental. Physical abuse is defined as the unwanted touching or beating of a person, while mental abuse can best be described as name calling or mocking the other person.
             Upon Jackson Toby's research, he concluded that there were two separate categories for violence in schools; they are violence perpetrated by trespassers and violence perpetrated by enrolled students. The trespasser usually exhibits violence in the form of stealing, robbing, or assaulting someone. The enrolled students exhibit violence towards teachers, administrators, staff members, and other students in the form of stealing, extortion, verbal abuse, intimidation, physical assault, and even homicide.
             The presence of violence in schools greatly inhibits the effectiveness of the education system and the student's well being.
