Interpret two myths that exist from different civilizations and analyze their similarities. Focus on ritual-religious beliefs that seem important to the specific cultural or societal backgrounds of the two different civilizations. Do not give a synopsis of the myths.....that is too easy, and useless.
             Throughout history there have been numerous ancient societies that share different beliefs on the beginnings of the world. Although dissenting beliefs are present, these ancient cultures share common interests in the origin of man, creation of the earth, and explanation of natural phenomenon. Without explanation, these questions are left for one to ponder and elaborate, thus the myth. A myth is used by societies as an explanation to the unexplainable. One of the most important myths, include those regarding the creation of man and earth. Myths regarding creation give cultures a premise, from which they can expand their religious and cultural beliefs to define natural phenomenon. In creation myths the first person is usually introduced; from that person the earth and its roots are formed. In examining the creation myths of the Greeks and Hindu's we discover different views as to the creation of earth as well as man.
             The Greek creation myth "the creation" originated with the first person, Chaos; from him the earth and all of its entities were formed. Then came Gaea, the earth. From Chaos also came Nyx and Hemera also known as night and day. The Greeks used names to describe both animate and inanimate objects. Another feature of the Greek creation myth is that anything that was formed was used to complement or better the other. Gaea, the earth, brought about an equal to herself Uranus or the Heavens to surround her. The cycle continued with the birth of different gods that corresponded to each other by complementing the other until the universe was finally complete.
