across, and 45 feet high (Gen. 6:15). This works out to 6.5 cubic feet of space per animal. Also, how did Noah care for all the animals? Some animals require special diets. Koalas need eucalyptus leaves, and silkworms eat nothing but mulberry leaves. For thousands of plant species there is at least one kind of animal that eats only that one kind of plant. !
How did Noah gather all those plants and where did he put them? Many animals require their food to be fresh. How did Noah keep all those food supplies fresh means refrigeration had yet to be invented? How did Noah keep pests from eating most of the food? And just how did a crew of eight care for that many animals?
Another problem is the Flood itself. Where did the floodwater come from and where did it all go? The vapor canopy model suggests that most of the Flood water was suspended overhead until the 40 days of rain which caused the Flood. There are a few problems with this model. First, how was the water suspended, and what caused it to fall all at once when it did? Second, if a canopy holding the same as more than 40 feet of water were part of the atmosphere, it would raise the atmospheric pressure and as a result raise oxygen and nitrogen levels to toxic levels. Thirdly, a canopy of any major thickness would have blocked a large amount of light that would have lowered the temperature of the Earth greatly before the Flood. Another model proposed is the hydroplate model. This model says that the Flood waters came from a layer of water about ten miles underground, which was released by a rupture of the earth's crust, shot above the atmosphere and then fell as rain. The first thing wro!
ng with this model is even a mile deep the earth is boiling hot and a reservoir of water would be superheated. More heat would be added by the energy of the water falling from above the atmosphere and Noah and everyone and everything on the Ark would have been cooked.
