Throughout The Aeneid, Aeneas takes an epic journey to attain his goal of finding his homeland of Italy. During his adventure, he faces many hardships and obstacles but in the end manages to lead the Trojans home to victory and triumph as a hero.
             In the beginning, Aeneas faces several obstacles. First, the Gods seem to be in conflict, helping and hindering Aeneas as he travels. The Queen of the Gods, Juno loves Carthage and does not want Aeneas to conquer Rome. She is also angry that a Trojan, Paris, did not see her as the most beautiful woman in the world. "That suffering, still rankled: deep within her, hidden away, the judgment Paris gave, snubbing her loveliness; the race she hated" (474). So Juno throws obstacles at Aeneas to deter him. Meanwhile Aeneas' mother, the Goddess Venus uses Jupiter to help her son on his long journey. And so, Aeneas has the conflicts of the Gods to deal with throughout his journey.
             As Aeneas travels, with the help of Venus and Jupiter, he is receives favorably by Dido, the Queen of Carthage. Here Dido prepares a feast in his honor. "She led Aeneas into the royal house, but not before declaring a festal day in the God's temple" (482). It is at this festival that Aeneas tells his story about the fall of Troy. The gift of a wooden horse filled with warriors seemed clever. But Aeneas, being a hero, pretended to be a Greek warrior and rescued his father. "Then come dear father, arms around my neck: I'll take you on my shoulders, no great weight" (505).
             At this point, Aeneas and the Trojans searched for their promised homeland until a storm raised by Aelous at Juno's request, drove them from Italy. "Saturnian Juno, burning for it all, buffeted on the waste of sea those Trojans" (475). After Aeneas finishes his story, Dido is madly in love with him.
