             In today's world, many people have problems setting their financial priorities. These people have a problem differentiating from what they want and what they actually need. Instead of buying items that are a necessity, many people in today's world feel that they must buy extravagant items to keep up with the modern times. As the standard of living in America increases, many people have the notion that luxurious clothes and state of the art technology is a necessity.
             In order to sustain life, people must have food, clothing, and shelter. However, as the years have passed, people now have changed these basic necessities into articles of gratification. For example, while it's true that food is a necessity, going to a fancy restaurant is not. Although many people need clothing, buying the brand name is not a priority. Despite food, clothing, and shelter being a necessity, one doesn't have to obtain the highest or best quality of these things when having financial difficulties.
             At times, we all over indulge ourselves. In my life, there have been many times when I have wanted objects that I did not need. In order to keep up with the trend, I felt that I needed the item as well. Already, I am deciding what kind of car I would like to drive even before I have a license. Even though public transportation has suited me well, I feel that I need a car since I will soon be able to drive. However, not any old car will do. The first car I have in mind, is a car that many other families could not afford, a 1996 Nissan Maxima. My income is approximately $400 a month and I reside with my parents so stability is not a problem. Of this $400 a month income from my part time job, my discretionary income is $200. However, since I don't have much experience with credit, I am unable to achieve a loan unless my parents are willing to co-sign for me and place their assets for collateral.
