A Learning Experience

             Caroline D appeared to be as normal as any other eighteen-year-old in her small town of _________, Alabama. She had just graduated high school, and to her parents she was still their little angel. They had very high expectations for her, but they had no idea their angel had disappeared months before graduation. Caroline had been working two jobs, and her parents thought she had been saving most of her money. Little did they know she had been spending all of her money on cocaine, until one late night phone call made them face reality.
             For Caroline, the night did not seem any different from any of her previous summer nights. She had been at work most of the day and could not wait to satisfy her addiction. As usual, she had the cocaine hidden in her cigarette pack, and had stopped at McDonald's to eat before going to get high. While she waited on her food, her mom called. Caroline assured her she was going over to a friend's house to watch a movie. She was glad she had fooled her mom again, and swiftly pulled her car into a parking space to eat.
             While Caroline ate, she thought about how blind her parents were to her addiction and laughed to herself. As soon as the thought had left her mind, flashing lights surrounded her car. The police knew Caroline's secret. She tried to hide her cigarette pack before the police could find the cocaine, but it was too late. The police were already at her car door. They found her cigarette pack, and asked her to step out of the car. Caroline could not believe this had happened to her. They asked her what she was doing with cocaine, and she only responded with a loud sob. They read Caroline her rights as they slipped the cold, metal cuffs around her wrists. They assisted her into the car, and the only thought that went through her mind was how her parents would react.
             After being booked at the county jail, Caroline had to call her parents, knowing that her life had changed forever....
