William Wordsworth

William Wordsworth was born in Cockermouth, Cumberland in Great Britain on April 7, 1770. He had a normal childhood with three brothers and one sister, but tragedy struck when his mom died when he was eight. Not long after, tragedy struck again and William's dad was taken away from him when he was only thirteen. From 1779 to 1787, he spent his life lodging with Ann Tyson and his three brothers. His sister was separated from him. William went to Grammar School in Hawkshead and the headmaster told William that he should grow up and became a poetic writer. During his stay, he made many trips to the countryside and would gain inspiration from the wonders of the beauty in nature. William then traveled off to St. John's College Cambridge, where he evolved his mind and his sophistication. He received 900 pounds to achieve his literary career. In 1795, the Wordsworth family moved into a cottage in Dorset. There, they met Samuel Coleridge and Robert Southey. In the next few years, he met a woman who loved his poetry; she began his secretary and was named Dorothy. William and Coleridge took a tour of the Lake District and gave lectures about poetry. In December of 1799, William and Dorothy moved into Dove Cottage in Grasmere. Dorothy was William's secretary as he dictated his poetry. In 1802, William married his childhood friend Mary Hutchinson and they had three children together. Soon, their cottage wasn't big enough so they moved to a large house named Allan Bank in Grasmere. For some strange reason, they moved to the Old Rectory, a cold, damp house where two of his children died. Finally, both William and Mary moved to Rydal Mount, where both would have two more children and stayed their for the rest of their lives. William died on April 23, 1850 and accomplished quite a lot. He wrote 70,000 lines of verse, 40,000 more than any other poet has.
