The poem is about a little girl who has lost two of her siblings to death. One day she meets a man who asks her how many brothers and sisters she has, line 13, "'Sisters and brothers, little maid". She tells him that "we are seven", throughout the poem. Although two of her siblings are dead. The man cannot understand this and goes crazy by the time the poem ends because the little girl remains confident in what she believes in and does not give in to the thought that two of her family members are dead. She refers to them as if they are alive throughout the poem. Such as on line 44, "I sit and sing to them" and on line 31, "Two of us in the churchyard lie". This creates a sense as if they are still alive. I think this is the method in which she deals with the fact that they are dead.
             The girl is described as angelic. Wordsworth refers to her as, "rustic", and "woodland" line 9, this point is greatly emphasised on line 7, in the word, "curls" which brings an innocent, cute and again angelic description to her. Another point which adds to this point and brings another point to the table is the fact that the girl has no name! Therefore I think that the little girl is supposed to represent all children. In Wordsworth time it was common for children to die. It adds to the point of her being angelic to the extent that we are uncertain if the girl is a ghost or not!
             Wordsworth has made the man in the poem behave as a child, in which the man is scared of death and has a negative attitude towards death, "But they are dead! Those two are dead!" line 65. On the contrary the child in the poem behaves as an adult, in which the child has a positive attitude towards death, "God realeased her of her pain" line 51. The use of this euphemism image evokes the sense in which the child does not point out death or God as the killers. She just says it was time for them to go, to heaven.
