book report

Throughout this essay I will be explaining how John Proctor
was the tragic hero of this play. Thesis statement is how John
Proctor becomes the tragic hero of the book and play.
I believe that during this book John becomes the hero for a
number of reasons. First of all, in the beginning of the book
John was a person who seemed like he was the head person of the
town or I guess you could say leader of some sorts. Also Arthur
Miller describes him as a powerful of body, even tempered, and
not easily led person. He is a man who can hide his feelings very
well and I believe that one thing alone contributed to him being
the hero the most. Proctor is a very smart and deceiving man in
my opinion. He was able to live with what he had with Abagail for
a long time with out letting anyone no which also helped him with
his strength to deal with other situations later on in the book.
During this book Proctor had many conversations with everyone and
here is a very interesting one that I have found," If she is
innocent! Why do you never wonder if Parris be innocent, or
Abagail? Is the accuser always holy now? Were they born this
morning as clean as God's finger? I'll tell you whats walking
Salem-vengeance is walking Salem. We are what we always were in
Salem, but now the little crazy children are jangling the keys of
the kingdom, and common vengeance writes the law! This warrant's
vengeance! I'll not give my wife to vengeance!"(act two pg. 77)
What Proctor is saying is that why do you single out people just
because someone accused her. This quote also shows that Proctor
is not afraid to stand up to anyone no matter who they are.
Before they come and take his wife him and Elizabeth have a talk
and during it, Elizabeth has a hard time trusting him again
because of the adultery even though it has been a long time since
it happened. Proctor also has the power to pres...
