During our Phys E.D coarse this year we have done basketball twice, near the beginning of the year and in April which is just 2 months ago. During the two basketball sessions we have learned skills, teamwork. Control and positioning.
Skills: At the first part of basketball we learned shooting (form, spin on the ball and timing) also the different types of passes (chest pass, bounce pass, lob passes and swinging the ball).
During the second part of basketball we focused more on positions and control.
Positions: for positioning we learned how to play zone defense which is a really affective way to stop the opposition, by not playing man, no one from the opposing team can single handedly beat you because you can collapse on them not allowing hem to drive as much forcing them to shoot. But when you play zone you rarely get fastbreaks in favour of your team, nevertheless the other team rarely gets fast-breaks either. Another thing we focused on the second basketball session was control.
Control: for control we did three-man weaves. That is where 3 players stand in a straight line about 7 feet away from each other and continuously run where you pass the ball. That gives you a sense of where your teammates are, communication on the ball and also everyone touches the ball so everyone fells apart of the success. We also did lay-ups with both hands, that's good for driving and sense none of us can dunk we can at least get comfortable driving from to left or right without using the opposite hand because that will make our chances of getting blocked higher. Anyway Over all I think that our basketball course was one of the most enjoyable of the sports we have done this year.
