AA

Are you an alcoholic? Do you constantly wake up longing for a drink? Perhaps you need a couple of drinks to fall asleep at night. Do you get violent when you have become intoxicated? Have you suffered from any of these symptoms? You could be an alcoholic. In this paper I will cover the first 3 out of 12 steps in Alcoholics Anonymous. I will also state my opinions and feelings on each step.
Step one is to admit being powerless over alcohol that our lives had become unmanageable. I believe that if you can admit there is a problem then we can start to fix the problem. This will be the foundation that is required for the rest of the steps.
Step two is to believe that a power greater then ourselves could restore us to sanity. I feel that as an alcoholic you cannot defeat your disease by your own. You need a shoulder to lean on. I feel that you need to find something greater then your self to believe in. Whatever higher power you discover, it will be there when you're sad, angry, tired, lonely, and most of all when you go to grab that drink.
Step three is to make a decision to turn our will and our lives over to the care of God, as we understand him. I believe that by doing this you will trust God to help take the load of alcoholism off your back. Up until now you where unable to function as a human being. With the help of God you are able to begin standing back up on you own two feet again.
I feel that every step is consequential, and needs to be followed to the letter. If a step is not completed, then you cannot move on to the next one. If a step is not completed your mind and body is not in a position to move forward. I made the choice not to write about the last nine steps, because a close friend of mine has not reached that point yet. I do not have the knowledge or the emotional backing to finish the last steps.
