Mr. Swales is an archetypal figure. He is the only person who senses and articulates the approaching horror of Dracula but is not believed.
             This story takes place in the late nineteenth century, in Transylvania, Germany. Jonathan Harker is traveling to Dracula's castle, in order to finalize a transfer of real estate. He becomes nervous, when all the local businessmen react in fear when hearing about his destination. They start giving him garlic, crossing themselves, and giving him blessings. Nevertheless, he is determined and continues his journey to the castle. The coach driver pulls into the castle and arrives in pitch darkness. He hears howling wolves in the background and is frightened. He begins to realize why the local businessmen reacted the way they did when they heard about where he was going.
             Dracula offers Harker very comfortable accommodations for his stay.
