Parallel Conflicts in Contemporary Society and
             Frankenstein, by Mary Wollstonecraft Shelly, was one of the most original pieces of literature in the seventeenth century. Created in a contest among friends for the best ghost story, Frankenstein was a primary influence of modern science fiction (------ 329). Through his quest for human acceptance Frankenstein's creation is shunned because of standards similar to those in contemporary society and is effectualy turned into a monster, determined to get even with his creator and the rest of the human race.
             Many stereotypes have evolved concerning the so-called monster in Frankenstein. The most common of assumptions is "transferring the name 'Frankenstein'" from creator, Victor Frankenstein, to creation (John Kinnaird 832). The creature is also recognized as being immensely cruel and dangerous from the moment he was "born." In truth he began as a harmless peaceful being, but through various attacks towards him by humans, he was turned into the devilish fiend everyone knows today. Theatre was the main cause of these stereotypes. When Hollywood took the idea of a creature being fabricated unnaturally, the plots that resulted "bear only the faintest resemblance to their literary ancestor"(Kinnaird 832).
             At the moment of his creation "like a child, his [Frankenstein's] Creature follows him, grinning, arms open to embrace him, Frankenstein can see his creation only as a devil, a wretch, whom he violently abandons. From this instance the Creature sets forth on a quest for human acceptance.
             Throughout his crusade the Creature encounters many hardships. His first attempt at contact with a man ended in utter failure. The Creature found an old hut on the edge of a wood.
