             His achievement was followed in rapid succession by other works that he learned. It didn't take very long until he wrote a composition of his own into his fathers notebook. It was an andante in C major and at six measures it was barely a work. Other small works would follow and as insignificant as they seemed, these were a precursor of what was to come for this young musical genius. Surely Leopold recognized the potential that his son possessed as a composer, but quickly embraced his children's keyboard talent and decided to capitalize on it. He was often criticized for being the first and worst example of child exploitation. In January 1762, Leopold and the two children set out for the Munich court of Maximilian III Joseph, Elector of Bavaria. This is where it all began.
             Immediately Leopold began plotting a more ambitious campaign. His main goal became Vienna, capital of the Habsburg Empire, home of the imperial family and one of the major cultural centers of Europe. The first stop was at Linz, where Wolfgang gave his first public concert before Count Herberstein and the young Count Karl Hieronymous Palffy. The talent level of the young Mozart instantly took both aback. It wasn't long after that word had reached Vienna of Mozart the child prodigy. Word of mouth did back then what television, radio and the Internet wishes it could do today. By the time that they arrived in Vienna, it seemed like the entire city was anxiously awaiting the child prodigies. Their appearance at Schonbrunn Palace on October 13 was judged by Leopold to be an extreme success. It seemed like no time before the invitations started pouring in. Because each appearance was rewarded Leopold tried to arrange as many concerts as possible.
