Reason for the fall of the Roman Empire
             Historians believe there are several reasons why the Roman Empire fell in the year of 476 AD. Such reasons are the fall of the economy, the moral decay of the people, the wither of the army, the lack of government leaders, the over extension of the empire itself and finally the spread of Christianity. It is my pinion that the reason the great empire fell is because it overextended itself, and because of that the rest of the threats had an easier opportunity to overtake Rome.
             Rome is almost perfectly centered in the heart of Italy, and the empire stretched from North England to North Africa, which is about 1,200 miles in length. That is a lot of ground to cover especially back in 476 AD. because where ever they went was either by foot or boat. Having all that land to control is a big task to come by. Why the Romans wanted all that land is a question I have, if they were said to be so smart and wise why then would they not see the consequences of having too much. I understand that having more land is a status and symbol of power, but having too much of it would cause an empire like Rome to extend their arms out so much that they eventually cramp up and stop working and that is exactly what happened.
             Because the empire was so stretched out, the government could not police it's own people. The bigger a place the more time is needed to maintain it. This is one part of the plan that Romans forgot to do. The population of the empire was vulnerable to threats, attacks and new ideas, which proposed a problem of the loyalty of the people to the empire. Since the army and other authority figures had to make a long and tiring journey to other city-states and patrol the lands, the people had an opportunity to revolt and join other empires and eventually form their own.
