Debate Paper -- Genetic Engineering

             A. Did you know that over 40% of the foods for sale in the grocery store are genetically engineered? Did you also know that the Federal Drug and Administration, also known as the "F.D.A.", the government agency responsible for your health and general safety, does not require the companies that produce genetically engineered label their products? This means that if there were to be a large breakout of disease in genetically engineered foods, the companies responsible could never be found.
             B. Since genetically engineered foods that are of the same type (for example, broccoli), are produced almost exactly the same way, if one genetically engineered broccoli were to get a disease, there is a much larger chance that other naturally grown broccoli plants would get the same disease, because the plants would have the same basic gene type Therefore, if someone were to sabotage genetically engineered plants, there's a good chance that it would catch onto the other plants very quickly.
             C. Genetically engineered plants are made to look and appear fresher. Yhis means that a tomato that looks bright red and really fresh could, in fact, be several weeks old and have absolutely no nutritional value.
             A. Many people will tell you that genetic engineering is useful so that we can help developing countries. The fact that is starving children's problems, which include starvation, are caused by POVERTY, not a lack of available food sources. If the U.S. government could afford to give away more food to developing countries, more food WOULD be sent away, and we wouldn't have these "feed the starving children" groups. The fact is that the U.S. already has a nearly 6 trillion dollar national debt. The U.S. government doesn't have enough money to send food for free to developing countries without dramatically raising taxes. Let's do the math. If there are approximately 275,000,0
