I pulled another magazine out of my utility belt, and loaded it into my weapon. I began to crawl through the dense brush and muddy water. We were somewhere in South America, and my unit had suffered heavy casualties. We had orders to evacuate the area. There was word that the place was getting nuked.
             My clothes were filthy and my face was dirty. I reached for my water canteen and began to take a long quench. The cool water flowed down my throat, rinsing down fear and regret. The canteen flew out of my grasp, as a bullet ripped through the thin steel. It clanked on a nearby tree and all of my fresh water for the next two days trickled out onto the forest floor. I plunged to the mud in fear and shielded my head from enemy fire. I watched one of the few soldiers left get blown 15 feet into the air by a landmine 30 feet away. One of his legs had been blown off and landed close by me. I sat in for a second in shock, and then what had just happened finally hit me I picked up my weapon and scurried on my hands and knees towards the muddy road. I sat down again and began to cry. The rain was coming down harder now. It was starting to get hard to see and the sun was starting to go down. I saw one of our tank trucks coming down the road. I tried to get up but my legs w!
             ould not function. My brain told them to move but they didn't. As the truck passed by, I still couldn't move. Just before I decided to give up all hope, an arm reached down and latched on to my shirt. I was pulled up onto the truck and we drove away.
             "U ok melon?" Someone said. I was dazed and confused. For a minute, I didn't know where I was, and then my memory returned to me.
             "Uuuh...yeah I'm good thanks." I let out a sigh of relief when I saw my unit around me. This was all that was left. Seven people out of 48. We had been surviving for about a week now, we were running out of ammo and food rations were getting low. ...
