Anne Frank: The Diary of a Young Girl tells of a young Jewish girl's
experiences through adolescence in the midst of World War II and Hitler's genocide against her
people. On her thirteenth birthday, she was given a diary in which to write he thoughts and
feelings. I was amazed at the depth of understanding and writing abilities of Anne while she was
in hiding during the time of war. As a teenager myself, I feel like Anne is writing my own thoughts
on the pages before me. I realized that this hardship of the Holocaust she faced made hew wise
beyond her years. She was such a strong and optimistic person in the face of such adversity. While
reading the book I couldn't help but think of some of my very close friends and what we had been
through. This made me connect with Anne on a very personal note.
I have known my best friend Rose ever since we were little. She comes from a different
culture and her family follows a very strict religion. Rose's freedom is very limited. She can't do a
lot of things that others take advantage of such as going out with friends, talking regularly on the
phone thing, and other normal activities that teenagers do. Her father is a control freak (no
offense to him or anything). He won't let Rose's mother (her mother doesn't have any young
children either) learn to drive or get a job because he thinks it unnecessary. Same thing goes for
Rose, her father thinks there is no need for her to see her friends out of school and such thing. I
have no right to say anything, yet in America that is noted as a little too extreme. He is a very
strict man and is very old fashioned. I understand then her father is a little over protective, yet if
you saw the sadness in her eyes, you'd see what I mean. She is such a sweet, caring person and
